Specialized Psychiatric Services for Women
Pregnancy is often seen as a joyful time, but physical changes, hormonal shifts and lifestyle adjustments can lead to mental health struggles. In the U.S., about 45% of pregnancies each year are unintended, and these pregnancies have a 20% higher risk of maternal depression. The postpartum period also is a critical time for mental health, with up to 20% of women experiencing postpartum depression, which can cause feelings of hopelessness, fatigue and emotional withdrawal.
Although these examples only touch on the mental health challenges that can affect women throughout life, they indicate the urgent need for comprehensive support. Our dedicated specialist in Reproductive Psychiatry offers compassionate care that recognizes the important role your mental health plays in your well-being.
The reproductive psychiatry services offered at PPI are a part of Penn State Health's Reproductive and Behavioral Health Program. Learn more about the entire Reproductive and Behavioral Health Program at .
